Despite a headstart by a new competitor to the box office race, Sonic the Hedgehog [SONIC] rallied to cross the finish line in first place with an estimated $26.3 million.  The videogame feature adaptation decline 55% from its opening, but has now banked $106.6 million.

The Call of the Wild [TCOTW] mushed $24.8 million to outperformed expectation in its debut at the second spot.  The audience was evenly split between males and females while 62% are aged 25 and older.

Sony Pictures Classics has dropped the full length trailer for the drama Charm City Kings [12OCB] based on the documentary 12 O’Clock Boys. Charm City Kings opens in select cities April 10th before expanding everywhere April 17th.

Two new films will play the weekend box office game, but neither will knock off Sonic the Hedgehog [SONIC] from the high score. The family-friendly Sonic the Hedgehog should hold around 55% of its debut for another $32 million.

Bleecker Street has unveiled the official trailer for the drama Dream Horse [DRHRS] based on a true story.   Toni Collette [TCOLL] stars as a Welsh cashier and bartender who persuades her neighbors and friends to invest in and raise a race horse. Briarcliff Entertainment has released the official trailer for the historical drama Emperor [EMPOR]. Dayo Okeniyi stars as Shields “Emperor” Green, an outlaw slave in the pre-Civil War South who fights his way north to join the raid on Harper’s Ferry that helped spark the Civil War.  Emperor arrives in theaters on March 27th.

Hulu has uploaded the greenband and redband trailers for the comedy Big Time Adolescence [BTADL].  Griffin Gluck stars as a teenager coming of age under the misguidance of his college dropout best friend, played by Pete Davidson.  Neon will open Big Time Adolescence in select theaters on March 13th, before it hits Hulu on March 20th.

Lapping the competition over the Presidents Day holiday, Sonic the Hedgehog [SONIC] scored an estimated $70.0 million over the 4-day weekend.  The family film attracted an audience of 56% male and 70% under 25 years old.

Last weekend's top film Birds of Prey [GOTCS] slipped to second with $19.9 million.  The 3-day portion declined 48% from its opening weekend.

Fantasy Island [FANIS] debuted at the third spot with $14.0 million over the long weekend.  The horror adaptation drew 52% female...

Valentine’s Day and the Presidents Day holiday weekend bring four new wide releases. The live-action/animated hybrid film Sonic the Hedgehog [SONIC] leads the way in what will soon be the comeback story of recent memory. Well Go USA has dropped the full-length trailer for the drama Cut Throat City [CUTTC] on Fandango.  Set in the Lower 9th Ward after Hurricane Katrina, a group of friends attempt to pull off a heist.
