Since the weekend after Thanksgiving is traditional one of the weakest for new wide openers, studios have stayed away except for one this year, Relativity with The Warrior’s Way [WRWAY].  Korean superstar Jang Dong-gun plays an ninja assassin fighting his ex-clan in the Old West.  The last Ninja Assassin starring a Korean superstar opened to $13.3 million last Thanksgiving for Warner Bros.  Relativity’s lower budgeted R-rated actioner may fight just to get into the top five.  Opening in 1622...

After winning the Oscar for best actress in Monster's Ball, Halle Berry [HBERR] cashed in with roles in franchise films and a string of forgettable thrillers.  Berry has now taken another dramatic turn playing a woman suffering from a multiple personality disorder in Frankie and Alice [FRNAL].   The film wrapped nearly two years ago without finding distribution, so producers are self-distributing Frankie and Alice with an Oscar-qualiying run in December hoping to land Berry another best...

The box office was plentiful over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 [HPOT7] remained at the top with an estimated $50.3 million weekend and $76.3 million from Wednesday to Sunday.  When comparing the Friday-Sunday portion, the fantasy sequel dropped 60% from its frontloaded opening weekend.

Even with four new guests at the dinner table for Thanksgiving, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 [HPOT7] looks to gobble up the most box office.  After a franchse best opening weekend, the seventh film is on track to earn around $85 million over the 5-day holiday weekend.

With its wide family appeal, the 3D animated Tangled [RAPUN] should perform best amongst the new wide releases. Originally titled Rapunzel, Disney changed the title and the marketing focus hoping to attract more...

Universal has unveiled a teaser for the comedy blending live-action with CG animation Hop [IHOP] from the creators of Despicable Me. The film will feature James Marsden [JMARS] as an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny, voiced by Russell Brand [RBRAN], that turns out to be an obnoxious houseguest.   Unfortunately, we get no sense of that from the trailer, which plays up the cuteness factor of a rabbit playing the drums to Blur's ubiquitous "Song 2".

After playing a lawyer in his breakthrough lead role in A Time to Kill, Matthew McConaughey [MMCCO] returns to star as The Lincoln Lawyer [LNLAW], a defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan defending low-life criminals.  With such a premise set up, one almost expects some light-hearted comedy.  Alas, the Lionsgate film takes itself way too seriously by its selection of trailer music and by pimping out all the Academy Award nominees in its cast.
