The Halloween remake was popular enough to warrant a sequel Halloween 2 [H2]. The trailer does nothing for me, but I admit I'm not a fan of horror or Rob Zombie [RZOMB] as a director. However, Dimenison has been running Halloween 2 web ads that parodies Apple's "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" as well as LowerMyBills' dancing people. Mike Myers jumps in halfway and kills the PC guy and those dancing fools. Now, I would paid money to see THAT movie.
With the success of the Transformers franchise, Paramount and Hasbro have teamed up to bring another action toy line to the big screen with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra [GIJOE]. While the 1980s cartoons were “Real American Heroes”, the feature film has a decidedly international flavor to the make up of the special ops team. Afterall, our Team America-like military has not been exactly popular around the world. Directed by Stephen Sommers [SSOMM], the PG-13 rated action film looks to appeal...
If one were to combine this weekend’s big openers, it would look something like muscley G.I. Joe toiling away in the kitchen trying to conquer French cuisine. Luckily, that did not happen as G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra [GIJOE] and Julie and Julia [JULIE]come to theaters separately. Julie and Julia is a curious combination of stories that weaves history with the present-day.
Julie and Julia starring Meryl Streep [MSTRE] and Amy Adams [AMADA] offers something different for viewers...
Before he became known for 3-hrs-long bloated fantasy epics, Peter Jackson [PJACK] directed a tight murder drama called Heavenly Creatures. Now, Jackson has slimmed down, literally and figuratively, to direct another murder drama, The Lovely Bones [LVBON] adapted from the best-selling novel by Alice Sebold. Saoirse Ronan [SRONA] plays a murdered girl who watches her family deal with her death. The trailer starts off promising enough with its beautiful images of heaven courtesy of Jackson's...
Vampires are hot. The classic horror monsters have become modern day anti-heroes as seen from Twilight to True Blood. Universal is capitalizing on the trend by changing the title of their Cirque du Freak adaptation to The Vampire's Assistant [VAMPA], taken from the second book in the series. Directed by Paul Weitz [PWEIT], the film chronicles a teenager's journey into becoming a vampire and dealing with his newfound powers. Sorta like the supernatural version of Spider-Man. The release...
Tucker Max started a blog chronicling his drunken escapades and sexual encounters. He then complied his stories into a best-selling book, which in turn has now been adapted into the feature film I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell [IHTSB]. He's the kind of d-bag jerk you want to punch out if you ever met him in real life. Unfortunately for I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, its trailer plays like the unfunny version of this summer's breakout hit, The Hangover, just the biggest R-rated comedy...
With Moneyball [MONYB] having trouble getting off the ground, The Blind Side [BLDSD] becomes the first book by author Michael Lewis to be adapted into a feature film. While half the book examined the evolution of the Left Tackle position in professional football, the movie will focus on the other half about the insiprational true life story of Michael Oher. One can see how Hollywood and a star like Sandra Bullock [SBULL] would be attracted to the story of how a well-to-do white family...
Disney is moving ahead with plans to shoot the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean [PIRT4] in 2010 with director Rob Marshall [RMARS] taking over at the helm. After directing all three previous films, Gore Verbinski [GVERB] has left to pursue other opportunities. Marshall previously directed Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and the upcoming Nine [NINE]. The musical choerographer turned film director seemed like an odd choice for an action adventure loaded with special effects. Some still...
Universal’s R-rated comedy Funny People [FUNYP] warmed up just $23.44 million but enough to debut in first place. Adam Sandler [ASAND] fans apparently did not care to see the comedian play a serious character not unlike the real-life Sandler. Reviews of the Judd Apatow [JAPAT] directed film have been mixed, which may not sway adult audiences still on the fence to check out the film in upcoming weeks.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [HPOT6] edged out G-Force [GFORC] for second...
A couple of months ago, Tony Scott [TSCOT] announced that a prequel to Alien [ALEN5] will be directed by Carl Rinsch, a commerical director working at Scott Free Productions, the company belonging to Tony and Ridley Scott [RSCOT]. However, Fox did not take too kindly to the preemptive announcement, especially when it turned out Rinsch was rumored to be dating Ridley's daughter. The studio was not going to greenlight the prequel unless the director of Alien himself takes the helm. Fox, who...
