If you want to "flip" is it necessary to...

sell all the shares you own and then re "buy" them if you wanted to, for example, short them? Or is there a way to just flip what you already have w/o having to sell and then re-buy?

You can own the max # of shares long and short if you so choose. You don't have to sell anything in order to short. {nm} BSmurf May 09, 11:22

"Flip" just means you REVERSE your postion, so if you were long 100K shares and decided to flip, you'd sell it and then short 100K. {nm} Dave3626 May 09, 11:48
