Remember to add the commission if you sold stuff to buy the IPO. Then, how many days did you hold it? 3 days? That gets you 350K/day?
Is that much better than what you usually do on a normal day? I think not...
And to think your port is 100M (not really that small), you probably didn't need to sell much, but I bet you there are people with much smaller ports trading the IPOs, selling everything to get a few shares.
All the selloff smaller ports do cause the market to collapse on our heads. Bigger ports usually have millions just laying around. If big IPOs were bought just by people that can afford them, we wouldn't have this problem, no selloff would be required. This are really big adjustments the market needs to make to get back to normal...
When I had a smaller port I would just lay off any big IPO, I benefitted from day trading based on that same selloffs and adjustments, and trust me, I did better than what the IPO could've brought me (and with less headaches). Now my port is big, I hold stuff longer, I just can't prevent the bleeding on those IPO days. I try to lessen the hit with daytrading, but weekends are not really great for it.
Another thing that works for me is to do my port cleaning on really great days. For example, hey I'm having a 5M day, great, I'll get rid of that deadbeat moviestock that's been bleeding on me. It softens the blow, at least psychologically, and without causing any market downfall... :)
