The Australian-born actor first began acting on a lark, hoping to earn a few credits so he could graduate from the University of Technology in Sydney. The acting class became Jackman's main interest, and he soon put his journalism studies on the backburner. After graduation, Jackman studied at The Actors Centre in Sydney, before honing his talents with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Fate dealt Jackman a winning hand in 1999, when he broke out in the role of Wolverine in The X-Men.
