Also, and I may be wrong about this, but I don't think positions in which you have negative gains (ie. the total position is worth less...
...than zero) count against your cash on hand. In other words, I think it you owned 5 stocks that were collectively worth -1M and you had 500k in cash, your total net worth would be -500k. The sensible way to think about it in the real world would be that you owe 1M so your 500k cash would be gone and you'd only owe 500k. But here, I think your cash is safe (until you invest it!
