Back in the day, Delta House reshorted to generate cash for urgent purchases.Other than that it seems to make no sense.
For a small portfolio, reshorting to free cash for a perceived immediate need (bond adjustment, arb opportunity) can be sensible; the prospective profit can justify the commission.
These days, we have a billion or so in cash sitting uselessly, so reshorting would make no sense. If anyone has any ideas on how to invest a billion profitably, please let us know.
