I think a lot of the screens AVNG4 and similarly hyped blockbusters would dominate are the premium ones. There are plenty of screens to go
around for all the movies that are made, but no one's paying to see a movie like Sisters or Book Club on a 3D screen or in Imax. So theatres can play both at the same time and they can all do good business.
And the other studios know this, so they program accordingly - the movies released a week before or after are aimed at different audiences and not competing for premium screens (eg movies for children, movies for seniors, horror movies, lowbrow comedies), and movies that would compete for premium screens are released 3-4 weeks on either side.
