What I appreciated about "Certified Copy"...
... was its basic design as a strange suspense story, in which what a viewer must figure out (as the hostess in the Tuscan restaurant volunteers to do) is not a crime, but more elementary aspects of the relationship of strangers. I enjoyed the landscape, the lead performances, and Kiarostami's taste for having actors speak directly or nearly directly to the camera. I liked the lingering last shot, too.
It reminds me a bit of "Caché," and a lot of the Linkletter "Before Sunrise" / "Before Sunset" films.
Having said that, an old friend used to joke that "no French film could ever be more than a 7 out of 10," and I did think of this friend once or twice while watching the movie.
