That statement would be equally true had the producers expended a billion dollars on the same movie they made for $250MM.{nm}

What you pay is not always an indicator of quality. There are people who pay as much for hamburger as others pay for filet mignon.  Some pay more for chicken wings than others pay for chicken breasts.

It sounds like these guys bought a plump turkey.

John Carter [OMARS] tracking 25-30MIL this weekend. BorderLand Mar 07, 14:41

Some more quotes: BorderLand Mar 07, 14:43

im HOPING carter opens to 38mil, then has crazy wom to do 50mil the next weekend, 30mil the next, and 20mil for 10 weeks in a row. :) {nm} adrenalin112 Mar 07, 14:58

I'm thinking it will open soft (based on tracking) and if the movie is as good as people are hoping/saying, that WOM will carry it forward {nm} PVL Admin Mar 07, 15:01

The reviews from non-fanboys have mostly been negative, saying it's slow and needlessly convoluted. {nm} Antibody Mar 07, 15:05

Uh, no, not quite. {nm} CSSHH Mar 07, 15:07

Then you're probably a fanboy. ;) There were some good comments over on Wells' blog Antibody Mar 07, 15:13

I didn't know anything about A Princess of Mars going into the movie, only the things that were marketed. I would give it a 9/10 probably. {nm} CSSHH Mar 07, 15:15

It's like the 2nd weekend of May. Poor John Carter is sandwiched between 2 mega blockbusters. {nm} thatpj Mar 07, 15:24

But you like all these tentpoles ;) {nm} notfabio Mar 07, 15:54

He does but that's what he has in common with avid moviegoers who like big summer movies and this works in that regard. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Mar 07, 19:27

i thought the first act was quite slow. act 2 has you buckled in nicely for a fun ride. {nm} adrenalin112 Mar 07, 15:57

and define fanboy? i never read the books, only wanted to see because ive been following its developmental drama, and i love andy stanton. {nm} adrenalin112 Mar 07, 15:58

18 of those dollars will be from me. {nm} Ryan_Stewart Mar 07, 14:57

I am fighting the impulse to offer you a "John Carter" tote bag, or a mug, or an NPR DVD. :) {nm} second gary Mar 07, 15:28

It's really sad. The movie deserves much better. Hopefully word of mouth will do the trick. {nm} CSSHH Mar 07, 14:58

Why does it deserve better? A quarter-million dollars was sunk into this foolishness. It doesn't deserve apologists or sympathy. It deserves DTXbro Mar 07, 16:43

Every cent of that money is on the screen. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Mar 07, 17:33

That statement would be equally true had the producers expended a billion dollars on the same movie they made for $250MM.{nm} DTXbro Mar 07, 17:55

no one cares what 1 frat house thinks & youre complaining about a 100yr old origiinal story being a retread. ok thx {nm} adrenalin112 Mar 07, 18:03

The people about to star in "The Bonfire Of The Careers" thank you for your support. If you buy 60 million tickets, the investors will get DTXbro Mar 07, 21:23

fwiw, LAT mentioned this yesterday as noted by notfaio and TOH. Antibody Mar 07, 15:02

Ready... set...: I think it's gonna kill. {nm} PRodQuanta Mar 07, 15:35

Careful there... You could be banned for spamming the boards :P {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Mar 07, 15:44

Why? People post there opinion over & over again that marketing sucks --> it will bomb. My friends and I think it looks cool --> it'll kill! {nm} PRodQuanta Mar 07, 16:40

I'm with you,..that 10 minute clip was delicious! {nm} GLAMMGUY Mar 07, 15:59

+1 {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Mar 07, 16:54

Or it was meh... it can get a little tiring to sit through another exposition of how the righteous reluctant hero winds up... second gary Mar 07, 18:26

Tick, tick, tick...BOOM! {nm} PVL Admin Mar 07, 16:09

For some reason, the spark isn't there for me watching the trailer. banke005 Mar 07, 16:45

Then you need to watch the fan-made trailer. It's miles better than the lousy one Disney cut. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Mar 07, 16:54

I'm sooooo happy this stock is tumbling. I'm BUYING BUYING BUYING! {nm} soopafly_213 Mar 08, 07:31
