here is my opinion...

Posted by: RazorHawk on May 17, 08:36 in response to lhayes37's post Is Paul2k the greatest trader who ever lived? Where does...

glory aka fembot is currently the greatest trader of all time.  she did her trading when moviestocks were limited to 50k shares each and when there were no OWs.  The industry and the game were different (less theaters, less releases, less IPOs, less starbonds, etc).  She has slowed down in recent years (mostly because she keeps talking about retiring... slacks off for a few weeks, then goes full bore again ~ rinse, repeat).

after glory I would lump together a whole group of traders who have proven themselves at different times and/or have been consistant over the years (in no particular order):

Altera

Paul2k

karspov

RazorHawk

OlegMax

mrbinns

grammar

RogerMore

TheWeekendWarrior

After that, there is another pack of traders who have been around a couple of years and are maturing as traders and are consistant.  They are usually on top of all the obvious gainers and are now learning about the hidden opportunities.

Then after that, there is a pack of up and comers who are working at making a name for themselves.  They are usually newer players who have found fragments of strategies and are holding on with both hands.  They make big money in some areas, and lose big money in other areas because they dont have a full view of the big picture yet (but they will get there sooner or later).

Overall, Paul2K has done a great job the last year or so, but fembot has done a great job over the last lots of years.  Paul2K could end up being the best trader of all time... someday.  I would just be concerned about his consistancy.  He is currently an out of work, stay at home dad and that could/probally will change sometime coming up.  I question if he could keep up his reset trading/day trading/news trading once he goes back to work. Good luck Paul  (PS.. hurry up and pass me... so we can get it over with... I dont like waiting).

I give partiallity to players who have whethered over the years and have had to learn a number of different strategies to survive.  It is easy to find a talent like reset trading and milk it for all that it is worth.  If something were to change in the game and there was no longer reset trading, all the players who rely on that one skill for their whole gameplay would be lost. This has happened many times over the years.  We have seen it happen to penny stock traders (manipulators) when HSX changed the commission to a minimum of $0.02 per share.  The players who made their living off of the pennystocks were suddenly nobodys again.

I know of one top player who was made a nobody again when HSX moved the weekend halt to Saturdays.  This player used to play over/under with the movie price on Friday halt and made a lot of money, but when the halts moved, this player started seriously overtrading flipping back and forth all day on Saturdays, and the comissions ate up whatever profits he ended up making.  After a while he finally learned what he was doing wrong and formulated a successful strategy and is now a somebody again.

When evaluating players over all time, you also have to hall of fame some traders who have made their mark on the game (even if they are not considered in the group of greatest traders of all time).

There would be no RazorHawk today, if there was no ABond in the past.  How many players made real life money because of BlueDuck?  (How many players made HSX money because of Blue Duck?)  (How many players are reading this and asking themselves: "What is BlueDuck"?)  How many players are making HSX money because of the PVL Leagues?

Is Paul2k the greatest trader who ever lived? Where does karspov fit in? Opinions? {nm} lhayes37 May 17, 07:51

Oh dear. This is a can of worms. {nm} Ryan_Stewart May 17, 07:59

I am writing my answer {nm} RazorHawk May 17, 08:01

I'm partial because karspov taught me this game. I learned to trade like a maven by mimicking his trades in ADJUS. {nm} lhayes37 May 17, 08:01

Paul2k pales in comparison to grory and many of the old time traders who made billions under the old rules. {nm} Paul2k May 17, 08:16

that is a point. The rules have changed and making money is easier. But one can still do the math with port size with percentage gains... Ryan_Stewart May 17, 08:18

Rule changes have made openers easier, but wasn't reset trading a lot easier (and obscenely profitable) years ago? {nm} Dave3626 May 17, 08:27

I'm not a long time player, been here for just over a year, so Paul2k is the top dog I know... The older greats I respect a lot, but feel slappydavid May 17, 08:16

here is my opinion... RazorHawk May 17, 08:36

What is BlueDuck? =P {nm} tealfan May 17, 08:50

This is BlueDuck... RazorHawk May 17, 09:31

thanks for the history daveart May 17, 09:34

+1 {nm} slappydavid May 17, 09:53

yes, very fascinating! {nm} Andre C May 17, 10:06

Nice list. I would add journey, H-Mogul and Moghul of the Rings (foofiter) {nm} RogerMore May 17, 08:53

I agree.... RazorHawk May 17, 08:58

When evaluating trading, it is a simple how much H$ you make/how much time you play the game since you signed up. Catzan May 17, 10:38

lol oops...meant per day average for our two ports. ;-) {nm} Catzan May 17, 10:39

I get 1.8M per day, I like this measurement... :) {nm} slappydavid May 17, 11:16

Oops, meant to answer below... {nm} slappydavid May 17, 11:17

shucks, thanks fellas :) I add you both as well!.... journey May 17, 22:25

Probably going to crap for this.. Keep in mind I'm just pointing it out for sake of the discussion around "old rules" making things more dif Dave3626 May 17, 10:53

"get" ^ {nm} Dave3626 May 17, 10:54

I don't think either advantage is big enough to offset the doubling of share limits from 50K to 100K. {nm} RogerMore May 17, 11:15

Thanks, Razor. It puts things into perspective and takes the wind out of overzealous, newbie ego. Ryan_Stewart May 17, 14:05

A couple of points. RogerMore May 17, 08:39

What are the names of grory's other ports? {nm} PRodQuanta May 17, 08:47

glorelai and jabberglory {nm} RogerMore May 17, 08:48

(actually, glorys and jabberglory) {nm} RogerMore May 17, 08:49

So, I used to play this game before I went on haitus for years and picked it up 360 days ago, and I remember a Professor and a marino being PRodQuanta May 17, 09:00

The Full Merino was H-Mogul's old handle. Professor Frink is still active today, he's at #42 on the LTD {nm} RogerMore May 17, 09:03

Huh, I'll be darned. {nm} PRodQuanta May 17, 09:05

FWIW, the winner of the Founders' Cup, iirc, was "Catholic Man," but I don't know anything about him. {nm} second gary May 17, 12:50

Joined in 2008 and I've learned a lot from a lot of different players (most have already been named). But I tend to respect the ones that eyescovered May 17, 09:49

Ooooo...there is an easy way to determine this. Just do the math on the top traders to see how much they earn per day. {nm} Catzan May 17, 09:50

Heh - make it "how much H$ do they earn per trade". (I'd probably be #1 by this measure) {nm} RogerMore May 17, 09:53

Ok...This is a measurement of longevity...and sticking to the game really. So, dividing port value by time played yields some up and comers. Catzan May 17, 10:28

What about people who have had a hiatus from HSX? I technically joined some time ago, but have only been active for a year. {nm} PRodQuanta May 17, 10:55

Yeah, that means you're not that good... :) {nm} slappydavid May 17, 11:19

I know, right!? {nm} PRodQuanta May 17, 14:05

I'll see what I can do {nm} KaiGee May 17, 11:38

Don't forget Mklein, 1 billion first year (2008), now rank 136 {nm} OdysseusG May 17, 11:29

There's always Bippy. :) Then, to judge by EAP, karspov has to have the most consistent good judgement concerning openers. {nm} second gary May 17, 12:40
