I guess you're looking from the perspective of maintaining a database

and extracting data on demand. As far as a list of moviestocks, I'd just be looking for a static web page list, or even a text file held on the server, not even available via links. I may go ahead and code to Kaigee's pages, but, it's not a great solution, since his updates are so infrequent.

Hi all, haven't been back in 10 months so I ended up buying every moviestock IPO'd since then. Anyone know how many moviestocks are there? {nm} M00shu Sep 14, 13:28

over 1500. i have a position in 1498 at the moment, but I know there are some that I don't have a position in (my guess is another 40- 50) {nm} Oleg Max Sep 14, 13:35

On HowProfitable, I've picked up 1,540 active movies, and 4,200 inactive. Also 1,416 Starbonds. elchan Sep 14, 13:45

Oh damn, just did a count, I have 1486 moviestocks. Shoot, this is gonna be interesting finding out which ones I'm missing. {nm} M00shu Sep 14, 13:50

did you count them manually? if so, you don't need to: Oleg Max Sep 14, 14:04

Thanks for that, actually I tallied them up via excel spreadsheet, but that helped. {nm} M00shu Sep 14, 14:31

And I got 'em... 1515 Positions 151,500,000 Shares Worth H$2,059,711,000.00 {nm} M00shu Sep 14, 14:37

I do not see the challenge? This is a video game, eh. JPS13 Sep 14, 15:34

My turn: If only there was a tool - similar to the bonk health check - into which edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 14, 17:51

Duh, BOND health check. {nm} edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 14, 20:23

But the mental picture of the bonk health check is more entertaining. :D {nm} DTravel Sep 14, 21:33

I turned off the BONKS. Something only billionaires, would be interested in, I think. Us mere mortals, only need to know what we hold. elchan Sep 14, 22:13

Also the problem is that for mere mortals, the "not owned" list will be huge, compared to the "owned". elchan Sep 14, 22:16

True enough. I think I'd tackle it, if I could get HSX to spit out one long list of moviestocks. edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 15, 06:43

The problem any site is that retrieving and displaying over 5000 stocks per request would be a killer on the server. {nm} elchan Sep 15, 07:00

But, it's 1500, not 5000. I don't see any trouble at all, of displaying that many lines. edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 15, 07:06

1514 {nm} edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 15, 07:08

Actually just the active list is only 1540, but still a heavy drain on processing power. {nm} elchan Sep 15, 07:03

I guess you're looking from the perspective of maintaining a database edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 15, 08:17

I guess I could make a static page once a day, but still loading it from the HTTP server is heavy. Let me try and see if it's that bad. {nm} elchan Sep 15, 20:29

I would guess the whole thing would be used only lightly, after an intial burst PM users trying it out. {nm} edzep - Port Monkey! Sep 15, 20:44

Check out the new "All Movies" and "All Bonds" tabs on the HowProfitable/hsx page. elchan Sep 16, 09:18
