lets try this again

I really doubt this is the "line in the sand" southerns are interested in making a big deal about by staying away. If that were the case, Blindside, a movie where a large black kid moves in with a white family (that has a young nubile daughter in the house) would have produced riots in the South. The fact is no one is born racist. You are taught that bull**** once you show up on earth. Children will play with ANY color kid in the sand box until an adult tells them not to. By the same token they'll play with any color doll or toy until a preference is forced upon them. You and our children have unfortunately been conditioned to think otherwise by marketersĀ  where that is concerned. When I was a kid one of the toys I wanted most was an Evil Knievel doll/cycle. The fact that it only came in white didnt stop me from wanting it any less. I also didn't refuse to play with G.I. Joes unless they were black either. There weren't alot of black toy options and we kids could care less. Just give us the damn toy! Parents are the ones concerned with passing their racism along to their kids. It makes no difference to a kid what color the toy or hereo is. As children we all live in a fantasyland of flying superheroes and princess. Childrn don't see color and don't care. (which sort of validates your point in a way. But see my lastĀ  paragraph)

And by the way, quit throwing up Oprah, Obama and Tiger Woods (insert Tiger Woods joke here), as examples of successful Afican-Americans that prove racism is over in America. It's not! That's no more valid than a block full of rich Jews equals, all jews are rich.

Yes, this country still has a long way to go until racism is truly not a issue but I don't thing the Frog Princess is a watershed moment that will send your so-called "south" reeling backwards to the 1930s. I think the movie will do fine. No where near that 50% haircut you're expecting.

Why I can't get on board with FROGP at its current number. PendenteLite Dec 11, 06:41

I hope you're wrong too. TroyPoodle Dec 11, 06:55

There's a reason doll mfg. make 'em in light and dark flavors. Kids are more likely to invest themselves in characters more like themselves. {nm} edzep Dec 11, 07:10

With all due respect, that's a load. See my message below {nm} HuskyMiller Dec 11, 07:46

If it was Pocahontas, it would have had the potential of being a bit of an investment - not sure they are really comparable, but still Facto Dec 11, 06:59

And that played in approximately 700 fewer theatres... Started limited. There are some similarities, but it was a summer release. {nm} Facto Dec 11, 07:00

Why should it be about black or white? If it's a good movie, people should be able to look past the color of the characters. {nm} AgentEvil Dec 11, 07:00

Plus I have this movie LONG. It better do well. {nm} AgentEvil Dec 11, 07:00

Ha ha! Ditto! {nm} eyescovered Dec 11, 07:03

Maybe... eyescovered Dec 11, 07:01

How can this really be relevant? Precious just did quite well, and Oprah is a superstar. Obama is African-American, etc etc etc Facto Dec 11, 07:07

I hear ya... eyescovered Dec 11, 07:13

It's also opening in the weeks before Christmas which tend to be slow due to people working to earn xtra money for the holidays secretstalker Dec 11, 07:12

Probably good points. Hope nobody forgets though that this one adjusts x3 + previous.... {nm} Facto Dec 11, 07:18

Crap... I *HAD* forgotten... *sigh* {nm} secretstalker Dec 11, 07:58

the flip side is there is a black audience that has been alienated from traditional Disney production that will be empowered by this one {nm} Moviesnob Dec 11, 07:14

All the people the see Tyler Perry movies can bring their kids lapuckfan Dec 11, 09:28

While I don't doubt this country has no shortage of racism I really don't {nm} HuskyMiller Dec 11, 07:16

BLDSD plays into the "White guilt" fantasy. A Southern white family "saves" a poor black orphan. {nm} Antibody Dec 11, 11:42

why does the argument seem so famiiar from last year {nm} hmm Dec 11, 08:07

[KIDS] short on [FROGP] at this price as well. KidsFund Dec 11, 08:13

Personally, I just think it looks a little scary for younger kids, and a little too much voodoo. Could be a huge hit, but my kids have no SEETVFund Dec 11, 09:41
