At this point I prefer the Rankin-Bass version.
Jackson's added so much, and taken away so much that only the Rankin-Bass version holds any symblance to the original. When I found out where the second movie ended I opted out of watching it at the theaters. I watched it recently from NetFlix. The Dwarfs do too much. The Thresher does too little. His continuity glitch he introduced in Lord of the Rings with the Ring messes up the conversation with the dragon. Then endinging it where he did when there should only be maybe 10 minutes of footage left if he were to follow the book just so we have a reason to tune into the battle of 5 armies. If he had ended the last one appropriatly there would be zero motivation for anyone to see this film. I refuse to watch it at the theater.
