I hear where you're going with Warner, but honestly, studios making less movies and focusing on tentpoles is not new

This summarizes that phenom really well

And this part in particularly about WB is revealing

Today we have a different model: The modern studio chief loves business, success, replication, and reliability, and nobody expects him to offer even the most cursory nod to anything that smacks of ideals that relate to content; that’s not what he’s there for. Tsujihara has an MBA from Stanford. He started out managing Time Warner’s interest in Six Flags theme parks, then moved to home entertainment, and early last year took over the whole business. He has never produced a movie; in fact, he is the first studio head to rise in the ranks purely through brand extension and ancillary divisions, and brand extension is what he’s all about. Besides the DC announcement, his big accomplishments have been to nail down those three additional Rowling movies to add to the studio’s portfolio of eight, and to turn one Lego movie into four — a ninja Lego movie, a Batman Lego movie, and (for purists, I suppose) The Lego Movie 2. This is what successful purveyors of goods do; they make more of what sells, they cull what doesn’t from the lineup, and they seek to create products in which quality-of-execution variability is never going to be too much of a wild card. MGM’s old, gloriously lofty motto was “Ars Gratia Artis”; today, the only thing written in invisible ink on every studio gate is “More of What Works,” a credo that would be right at home at the entrance to any manufacturing plant.

V: Netflix is in final negotiations to pick up Death Note [DNOTE] Oleg Max Apr 06, 16:19

This is the first time I've audibly said "No! No no no no no..." to one of Netflix's acquisitions. I wanted more for this project than that. {nm} chosenone2oo5 Apr 06, 16:27

No way this will come close to the original. You can't do that level of killing in Hollywood. It will more likely be islander Apr 06, 16:43

netflix isnt hollywood. Its probably has a better chance of being more faithful at Netflix than at Warner. And Adam is not exactly known for Moviesnob Apr 06, 16:50

If you say so :) but... islander Apr 06, 16:59

fair but Netflix carries a lot of anime and has recently moved into Japan. My guess is they are looking at how well the anime does for them Moviesnob Apr 06, 17:06

If acquired would this mean Netflix exclusive with no theatre release? {nm} ossiemosis Apr 06, 16:30

Typically w/ Netflix, it's means a very, VERY limited theatrical release. Like an IMAX exclusive one-week limited engagement. chosenone2oo5 Apr 06, 16:33

could still get sequels {nm} Moviesnob Apr 06, 16:37

this plays into WB making less movie. {nm} Antibody Apr 06, 16:56

this is the 2nd time they've gone down the road with adam and then pulled the rug out from him. Its nothing new RE warner {nm} Moviesnob Apr 06, 17:00

Right, he's not part of the WB stable of filmmakers mentioned by THR. {nm} Antibody Apr 06, 17:03
