Movies

Nice thesis, chosenone! I'm fascinated and baffled by the enthusiasm and all the buzz the release of such a movie brings.

At the moment superhero movies are besides Star Wars the biggest boxoffice power out there. So I can understand that Warner and DC want a part of the cake.

The main problem I see especially with the DC EU is that I'm 1000% sure that there would've been ways to make BvS and Suicide Squad on a much smaller budget. Even if the quality of the movies would've been the same (neither better nor worse) I think the box office results were the same.

The main goal for the studios is not to make good superhero movies, they just want to make superhero movies that are profitable.

I still can't understand how so many people want a quality product and they want to find it in a superhero movie. Those movies are supposed to be stupid fun! And stupid fun is not bound to a certain budget.

To this day one of the best comicbook adaptations is Hellboy (imho). According to BoxOfficeMojo the budget was 66 mio $. The movie is funny, passionate film making and most importantly the movie doesn't try to compare to any other movie around that time. It has found it's own tone. And that's what the DC EU still has to do.

MROBB, and CDELE... ;) don't care about the rest~ {nm} Colt 1911 Aug 03, 19:39

In terms of looks, both. In terms of looks *and* acting ability, MROBB hands down. {nm} Jay_Beezy Aug 03, 19:55

MoS, BvS, and now it seems, SS, this team has made 3 bad movies and should be out. but fans seem willing to support no matter what so... islander Aug 03, 19:53

+1 They need a new creative team... TwoMisfits Aug 03, 20:13

Well, Geoff Johns was just recently (at least officially) announced as leading DC and his work started on WW (as a co-writer) ~JPV~ Aug 03, 20:18

I'd tell Warner/DC to quit trying so hard to NOT be a Marvel movie. Just make a good movie and if it's the same tone as Marvel who cares {nm} JDolphin Aug 03, 20:35

Which looks like what they're doing with JLEAG ~JPV~ Aug 03, 20:43

Summary of current state of DC Movies: "Unite The Seven!", but now only six are scheduled to show up... well now five... "Unite The Five!" {nm} RazorHawk Aug 03, 20:48

Suicide Squad? Where are the reviews for that great-looking cat movie!? {nm} Abraxas Aug 04, 00:17

Some superhero movies should be stupid fun, but some can and should be deathly serious... TwoMisfits Aug 04, 05:49

couple a thoughts islander Aug 04, 06:02

You're right islander. I just find it kind of sad that that debate overshadows so many good films released each year. BlackMamba1893 Aug 04, 13:33
