For comic fans, there is a wide range of tones and types of books. Why do you think it's so easy for Marvel to make movies of all different genres and tones and types, but still use the Avenger characters?
What comic people love is seeing their favorite characters onscreen in a good movie that keeps the character "in character". That can be a heist movie, that can be a comedy, that can be a buddy movie, that can be a dark angsty movie, etc. As long as the characters are done right and the movies are well made and plotted, they are can't lose...
