I think this is a casting & movie direction mistake - I'd punt the movie name and go generic with their plans b/c the name will be negative
The people who they are aiming for with the new plot and likely cast/tone are NOT the people who love Barbie. I can't see how they are gonna fit the square in the round hole. The Barbie fans might feel insulted by the send up of their favorite toy (which I'm gonna assume the plot and casting is gonna go with), while the non-Barbie fans will never see this.
My girls and I are not the demographic - I never got Barbie or American Girl or dolls in general. But, this should be a mother/daughter movie on a Bad Moms budget.
And if they are going with an Enchanted type movie - Enchanted worked b/c it was amazingly cast and its send-up of itself was cute and fluffy and G-rated, not scathing and harsh...
