A great point. Of course the concept of reboots or remakes aren't inherently wrong, but as you point out...
.. it just seems to be the case that they rarely work. It may be because they're generated out of a desire to generate business rather than add a new artistically credible interpretation. Spidey 4 seems to be a rushed decision to reboot and recast on the basis that the budget was there, so let's do something, rather than let it sit and wait for the right team to take on script/cast/crew.
