I think THR is over-exaggerating. Low-to-mid-$30M range. Buzz bubble burst last month on this zit.

They're trying to plug this film excessively now, trying to get people to change their minds. These days, the teaser trailer is all some people see--and "The Mummy (2017)" teaser was underwhelming at best. The final trailer was released in the last 24 hrs, and it's HEAVY on the action. They're obviously getting desperate.

I'll leave out international numbers for now. Universal Monsters tend to fare well overseas, as they're an almost 100-year-old brand.

In one of the latest featurettes, they revealed a real slap in the face for monster fans! Instead of keeping it barebones and fast-paced, we're going to be getting heavy world-building (AKA franchise plot-thread establishing) exposition during "The Mummy (2017)" about some shadow organization that will lazily connect all the separate monsters together: Prodigium. Marvel did it with S.H.I.E.L.D., which was great because the comic book fans love S.H.I.E.L.D. Then Godzilla did it with Monarch, which was mildly forgivable because they kept the action focused 99% on Godzilla (Monarch was peripheral). Now Universal Monsters had to step their foot in the same pile of crap with Prodigium. Did no one notice when Marvel got harassed over their world-building antics with "Iron Man 2" and "Thor?" It was bad. It's time taken away from the main story to establish plot-threads for future films, which compromises pacing and plot structure. SHAME ON YOU. Remember "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" doing the exact same thing with the DCEU, with cameos from ALL the Justice League members, PLUS the villain Steppenwolf RUINING the pacing for a THREE HOUR MOVIE?

Hard to say EOT initial tracking was 30 and it did 28, but MISS5 was 40 and it did 56. Mummy has a brand which EOT didn't. Panicky Universal Exec May 18, 13:27
