Maybe but GFBs are a big group and would include a lot of former gamers (now dads who will take their family).

+ Besides being a fast-paced and beautiful story, there so many iconic references here including characters and most importantly, memories dear most Americans.

It should also appeal to female audiences, Olive Cook's character is important and (in the book) very likable (IMO).

Man, I even expected the soundtrack to be a hit, and to make an impact on younger audiences similar to the soundtracks from GOTGX. TBH, the only way I thought this film wouldn't work would be if Spielberg dropped the ball, or not enough screens.Ā

THR: Ready Player One is tracking for a sluggish $35 million-plus debut over three-day weekend. [RDYP1] Antibody Mar 08, 09:40

Nooooooooooo! I want this to be a blockbuster so badly! (My favorite book) {nm} Wilderness_Journey Mar 08, 09:41

Hmm, I was worried about that. Our polling numbers have been weak and I thought, they can't be right, gave them basically no weight. {nm} RollingThunder Mar 08, 09:47

it just looks like a sprawling mess from the trailer {nm} slipping jimmy Mar 08, 09:48

Industry could be flat vs 2017 when avengers opens unless quiet place or rampage really breaks out {nm} Moviesnob Mar 08, 09:57

Me too. I am about to finish the book myself. Loved it, and it's hard to believe with Spielberg at the helm this won't be huge. tatoufan Mar 08, 10:07

he hasn't had a big-budget hit really since War of the Worlds {nm} slipping jimmy Mar 08, 10:18

The heavy focus on Final Fantasy/Tron Legacy/Warcraft esque CGI sequences might be turning off audiences, that number points to GFB's only . {nm} notfabio Mar 08, 10:31

I mMeant Olive Cook's character is important and in the book. {nm} tatoufan Mar 08, 11:13

But The Post, BFG, Bridge of Spies, Lincoln were not blockbuster films but they were all very good films and well received. tatoufan Mar 08, 10:36

his historical movies were at least about something. i don't know what this one is about other than nostalgia porn {nm} slipping jimmy Mar 08, 10:57

A nostalgic porn with a kid vs the new world orish {nm} tatoufan Mar 08, 11:18

Sorry. It's a nostalgia porn adventure film with a poor, geeky, loveable teenager vs the new world order for everything. Classic Spielberg. {nm} tatoufan Mar 08, 11:22

Jaws, E.T., Raiders, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters are classic Spielberg. none of them were about a geeky teen v. new world order {nm} slipping jimmy Mar 08, 11:39

True, maybe it's not classic SS, but to me it just seems like a perfect story for him. {nm} tatoufan Mar 08, 11:53

1st trailer awesome... 2nd trailer WTF is this?? Whoever cut the 2nd should be fired. {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Mar 08, 10:27

Agreed, the second trailer is not as good as the first. It's confusing if the story is new to the viewer. {nm} tatoufan Mar 08, 11:32

In the end, it should help sell a lot of VR headsets and make VRChat more popular. {nm} tatoufan Mar 08, 11:44

V: “Ready Player One is on pace to open to between $45 million to $55 million over its four-day opening weekend. Antibody Mar 08, 16:18

I'm not target audience, I'm sure, but imo book was almost unreadable and the trailers look like a pile of nonsense. {nm} Bronzey Mar 08, 17:18

Can anyone explain why tickets haven’t gone on sale yet? MiyazakiFan Mar 08, 18:17

I know I'm in the minority (and I grew up in the 80's), but the book was absolutely horrible. {nm} Chondog Mar 09, 05:07
