Comic sales figures, her comic has been canceled and restarted 5 times in the past decade. Marvel has been trying to push her as the new
face of Marvel to replace Spidey but the writing and art has been so bad it keeps getting canceled. Her storylines are so bad the Marvel Studios as writers had to basically start from scratch... In Civil War II storyline she was a fascist PC leader who abducted, imprisoned heroes and committed many crimes against wrong thinkers. The Ms Marvel from way back was good but her nickname is Carl Manvers instead of Carol Danvers, she went from being drawn sexy to being drawn manly.
Check out comichron which lists monthly sales figures for hundreds of titles.. her sales are poor.
To me the movie looks decent but many Marvel fans will be upset if she's a deus ex machina and takes out Thanos, in Avenger 4.Many are predicting if Marvel by goes woke, the MCU will be broke. If Captain Marvel was introduced without the Avengers 4 tie in and go on her own merits it would like be Marvels worst performing by far. Captain Marvel is only possible due to the coattails of the MCU
FyI when I started reading comics there was another Captain Marvel, she was a black woman who was written well and leader of the Avengers who had light powers. Her storylines were good. She later became Prism orSpectrum
