Product...always returns to product. Toxic fandom? The internet is to blame for giving a platform for astroturfing. Used to be films find an
audience. Yay. Now films find an audience and if even a small percentage of people don't like it, their dislike becomes a disproportionate roar.
This past Christmas was weak...when it has been strong, the box office waves carry into January then to February. Same with January. When those months are weaker, the waves are only ripples.
Some have forgotten what it's like to have a Star Wars drive box office...or better a Star Wars AND Jumanji.
Disney produced a ton of flops?!?!? 2015 - 2018 they made over $10 billion...averaging $2.7 billion a year on about 40 releases. Some of their flicks may not have met crazy expectations, but they only have a few what I would call missteps.
