Bigots and slack-jaws are being replaced, daily. Each time a right-winger takes stale thinking to the grave, a younger, better American
makes our electorate less rural, less religious, less bigoted, less white, and less backward. This is how the liberal-libertarian mainstream has shaped American progress throughout our lifetimes and will continue to improve American against the wishes and efforts of our intolerant, rural, superstitious, gullible, half-educated, economically inadequate lesser elements.
In America, those who prefer reason, science, tolerance, education, modernity, and freedom prevail over time. We have faced successive waves of ignorance and intolerance throughout our history -- targeting Italians, Jews, blacks, Catholics, gays, the Irish, Asians, Hispanics, agnostics, Muslims, women and others -- but the lesser voices have not prevailed, and this latest batch of bigots seems nothing special to me.
They will be -- and should be -- replaced.
