Saw STAR9 with kids -- didn't hate it.
I'm not big on tracking the Star Wars lore, so I didn't care much about convoluted plot ends not getting tied up.
Agree it was in large measure a homage to fandom.
But for what it was the writing was decent, the acting was generally good, and the story hung together for the most part.
Didn't see in on big screen like IMAX, and I think that might be worth the experience for another $15 investment.
It did move a bit too fast, and could have spent a bit more time on one or two places, but it would have been over 3 hours to do that. I think 2.5 was max considered adviseable for commercial reasons, and this is the best cut they could put together.
