More people saw Iron Man in North America, than in for instance Europe, per capita, and there's higher expectation levels for the sequel.

There's also a fair chance that lots more people saw it multiple times (including DVD) in North America, and can't wait to see the follow up in theatres.

Apart from the numbers studios have, from their own research, I don't believe there's been many valid studies into this, though. It's not something that statisticians or scientists would focuc much on - outside of the film industry (and the latter doesn't release so much info to the general public, unless I'm mistaken.. )

LATIMES/BENFRITZ: IRON MAN 2 made 26% more overseas in local currency OW than the first IRON MAN this weekend. notfabio May 02, 10:50

Here in Guatemala it was at least 40% higher, sold out for the rest of the week in some sites {nm} gogreen May 02, 10:54

I saw it today. It was 70 % of the part 1 -fun and surprise. A short for me JMT May 02, 11:02

I disagree. But then again, I saw Iron Man for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and the sequel on Wednesday. Easy to compare, then. Facto May 02, 11:15

It'll probably do better against the first one, percentage-wise, domestically. Europeans etc. tend to regard films as Iron Man as standard Facto May 02, 11:13

Of course, because all Europeans have the same taste in movies and only watch artsy movies from France or China... Iron m {nm} Buesi May 02, 11:35

Iron Man is pretty big in Europe, too. {nm} Buesi May 02, 11:36

Did I say it wasn't? Read my posts again, or alternatively, learn to read. Or did you forget to open the message and read the IM? {nm} Facto May 02, 11:47

I did read it. I just don't really see a "resistance towards Hollywood blockbusters" in Europeans the way you do. {nm} Buesi May 02, 12:00

what is Facto talking about? RazorHawk May 02, 12:07

Within arthouse crowds. I.e. very little resistance. Facto May 02, 12:14

Ok. Europe is not homogenous, and there may be differences between generations also. Facto May 02, 12:10

cinema about 70% full on the first friday night in the uk spinks May 02, 13:46

This was probably the case in much of western Europe. (Both the 70% attendance, roughly, and the A Team-trailer.) {nm} Facto May 02, 16:58

Btw, was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time-trailer also included with your UK prints... ? {nm} Facto May 02, 17:00

The first IRON MAN did do better domestically than internationally so that percentage uptick should be higher in the US {nm} notfabio May 02, 11:46

Indeed. I know that in Europe, such films are regarded by many to be too American, too Hollywood. Facto May 02, 11:57

I think you have a point. Maybe even two. My European look on that...; JMT May 02, 12:54

Indeed. I forgot about the illegal downloads thing.. There's no real risk in Europe in doing such things - unlike in the US. {nm} Facto May 02, 13:15

Why should the % increase be larger in the US because the original was nominally higher? Isn't that the point of using a proportion? lukesed May 02, 11:57

More people saw Iron Man in North America, than in for instance Europe, per capita, and there's higher expectation levels for the sequel. Facto May 02, 12:18

Of course more people saw Iron Man in the US than in Europe (per capita) - the character isn't very well known outside of the US Buesi May 02, 12:38

"Europeans have a different take on movies and summer." This is true. As well as the rest of your paragraph. And I'm not sure that many Facto May 02, 13:05

My thoughts: the US market has more focus on seeing titles opening weekend. Elsewhere films have longer runs... CityHall May 03, 00:08
