I figured for a lot of America, but NYC at least should be better...but..here in NJ same thing, some showings on Fri...not 1 ticket sold yet..

There are a bunch of racists in America that sadly do not want to see people of color highlighted in film or "are not interested" in seeing that as the nicest way to put it.  It is already down to 6.8 on IMDB as people can watch from home and here is a wonderful, random review giving it a 1/10:

"Dreary with endless, awful music

b*******June 2021
Anthony Ramos stars in this hodgepodge of stereotypes ... yes stereotypes. Even if they are positive portrayals, there's nothing new here. A wants to go back to the islands, B wants to move uptown, C doesn't fit in at college and wants to come home, D fought hard to fit in back in the day.

It's a la la land where everyone has a dream and sings toneless rap music. It's a "barrio" free of drugs and booze and crime.

It's all too big and loud, and that doesn't make it any good; it only makes it big and loud."

Hollywood can move for inclusion...but a lot of the population is still a few decades behind......

A little disconcerting that I don't see any sell-outs for In the Heights in any of the NYC AMCs I've checked.... TheWeekendWarrior Jun 10, 11:04

It's doing ok for Friday night. The weird Thursday WOM opening was last minute. However doesn't look like its going to go nuts. {nm} notfabio Jun 10, 11:11

it def looks soft, but its worth noting this Hispanic audience skews towards walk-ups {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 11:50

*the {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 11:50

well anyone with HBO Max can just watch it right now so . . . {nm} cake boss! Jun 10, 11:11

(Alamo DTLA and AMC Sunset 5 were all sold out all weekend here but they are smaller houses with not 100% capacity) cake boss! Jun 10, 11:18

DTLA Alamo has it in four houses (usually the most they will dedicate to one film). It looks like tics are avail all weekend {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 11:40

dang it. looks like they added shows since i last checked cake boss! Jun 10, 11:56

Oh, I know that the Alamo here in Brooklyn had sold out a lot of the showings by last week. TheWeekendWarrior Jun 10, 12:42

GOVKO still opened to $32M, CNJU3 $24M {nm} Antibody Jun 10, 11:28

Marketing started Dec '19. Other WB Max/Theatrical films like GvK, Conjuring, Mortal Kombat all began their marketing in 2021. HurricaneKid Jun 10, 11:46

That didnt hurt QP2 {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 11:56

What would QP2's opening have been if it had a simultaneous streaming launch? I'm focusing on those WB/HBO Max films. {nm} HurricaneKid Jun 10, 12:07

i personally dont think the fact the marketing started pre-pandemic is a factor if it opens under expectations. {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 12:17

Exactly. It’s only a problem if you over saturate the marketing between then and now. {nm} Jay_Beezy Jun 10, 14:59
