A-listers don’t *literally* need that backend if they’re upfront paycheck is already significant.

The irony of Dwayne Johnson being compensated for backend on Red Notice is that the original studio bailed on it out of fear of financial failure following the box office disappointment of Skyscraper. And financial failure means a lack of profits to distribute as backend. So why should Dwayne Johnson have been compensated for something he likely wouldn't have gotten in the first place?

DL: THE ADAM PROJECT had 92.4 million views this weekend, the third best launch for a film behind Red Notice & Don't Look Up. notfabio Mar 15, 15:07

What was the reported budget for The Adam Project? Can't be as high as Red Notice, right? {nm} Jay_Beezy Mar 15, 16:36

Don't think Netflix has disclosed, but wouldn't be super surprised by $80-100 (less than half RED NOTICE) {nm} notfabio Mar 15, 16:41

Assuming of course that unlike Red Notice, the stars weren't paid obnoxious salaries. {nm} Jay_Beezy Mar 15, 17:59

Ryan Reynolds got around 20 each for Red Notice & Six Underground, Garner and Ruffalo I'd guess around 3-5 each. {nm} notfabio Mar 15, 18:05

Zoe Saldana I'd guess around that range too. {nm} notfabio Mar 15, 18:06

How did I double reply? {nm} Jay_Beezy Mar 15, 18:00

I've seen it happening now and then with posters {nm} tealfan Mar 15, 18:39

As the king of this, usually it's my fault, click happy, bad internet connection and hitting post twice. {nm} notfabio Mar 15, 18:54

In that regard, I think I can blame a slowly malfunctioning mouse on my end. {nm} Jay_Beezy Mar 15, 19:08

Stars get paid a lot more for streaming titles because they’re basically buying out their backend, since cut of gross isn’t an option. {nm} austpow Mar 15, 20:35

this is smartest reply about backend and salary in hsx's recent history {nm} Moviesnob Mar 15, 21:45

Problem is streaming services can't sustain paying that kind of money to stars. {nm} Jay_Beezy Mar 16, 07:45

Netflix feels they can make a number of films each year at the $100m level. Amazon and Apple can do even more {nm} Moviesnob Mar 16, 08:52

100M I don't think would be too much of a problem. The problem is continuing to make films that cost 200M. Jay_Beezy Mar 16, 09:36

They'll need a handful of those a year. A listers need to get their backend and residuals upfront and they know what movies have made in the Moviesnob Mar 16, 11:42

I'm thinking these are just TV movies, and my guess is they basically suck. {nm} Goodvibe61 Mar 16, 00:11
