The wife and I took in yet another screening of one of our most loved films this evening; Bonnie and Clyde, the second gold age classic playing at the local Wednesday Night "classic cinema" screening.
A decent number of folks turned out for this screening. And for the better part of 90 minutes or so they were able to keep relatively quiet; it was only in the final 20 minutes or so that they decided they were at home instead of a public screening. Nevertheless, sitting up on top kept the idiocy to a minimum.
And the screening was pretty fantastic. What an incredible script. Every time I see it, I'm left with a sense of wonder at how perfectly they story unfurls, and the tension just slowly crescendos until you can't take it anymore.
What a film. What a group of performances. The casting! Wow. Every time I see it, I marvel at this performance or that one. Everyone is just so good, I swear there has to be multiple lifetime best performances in this. This time I want to mention Hackman. He is incredible in this. He just lights it up here. What a performer. The whole take on brotherhood here; it's gutwrenching and true. Amazing work by the two guys, just incredible.
I don't know how many times I've watched this film, and yet scenes always play out and go in directions you simply don't anticipate. The script by Benton and Newman is one of the greatest of all American Screenplays. There are so many little clinching details in just about every scene; the movie works on you in so many ways. The movie is exhausting, in a great way. Talk about a full meal.
Cinema City: Thanks for showing this on your largest screen there. Wonderful.
