Handing the microphone to Will Smith — then letting him ramble — was not fine. It was lousy judgment, cowardice, maybe both
Denying Smith the stage likely would have been the proper course. Because Smith's severe misconduct was not handled at the proper time -- and the issue was compounded by handing him the microphone, then letting him engaged in an extended, self-serving presentation -- the Academy is in a bigger pickle concerning how to respond to the blatant, severe breach of the code of conduct. Packer whiffed, and the Academy erred by not overruling him (unless Packer wanted to address Smith's misconduct and the Academy pulled rank, which seems unlikely).
The Academy learned the rough way that Will Packer was not up to the job. So far, Academy is a failure, too. {nm} Mar 28, 05:38
The show was fine... honestly I'm not sure why anyone would want the job considering the way people treat the producers. {nm} Mar 28, 05:46
