Adult-targetted dramas like this and Fabelmans rarely do well over Thanksgiving... putting two of them is just asking for trouble.
Especially since Black Panther will still be #1 that weekend, most likely. I don't think Devotion need to worry to much about legs. It's a fine movie but with a limited audience. A Dec 9 release will generally have legs due to the holidays whereas Thanksgiving releases really need to open well or they'll be gone by early December. Was Devotion supposed to open earlier in the fall at one point?
DEVOTION tickets went on sale today too, first shows 2pm Tuesday 11-22. Nov 11, 13:03
They should have moved this to Dec 9 when the only wide release seems to be Father Stu: Reborn (but also Sony) {nm} Nov 11, 13:11
Thanksgiving is a better date. Not much competition with STRNW and SPIEL, and already the 3rd weekend of BPNT2. {nm} Nov 11, 13:16
No one wants their legs chopped by AVAT2. {nm} Nov 11, 13:19

Bones and All would probably take away any potential younger audience, too. Nov 11, 13:25
DEVOT is going after action, religious and urban crowd. Not much overlap with a SPIEL biopic. {nm} Nov 11, 13:30
