theatrical. You cant platform these anymore, so you just go to the widest number to start and go digital asap

BOR: Disney will release Searchlight's Chevalier in an estimated 1,350 locations on April 21. (quasi-dumped, similar to House Party) notfabio Apr 13, 12:48

WRONG! This would have been a limited release at best and Searchlight are putting everything behind getting this one out there.... TheWeekendWarrior Apr 13, 12:56

It's going to be too wide to show decent per screen and too low to show a decent opening weekend (barring a miracle) {nm} notfabio Apr 13, 13:02

(though it is a far cry from a total tank job that Focus did on INSIDE though that was going nowhere anyway) {nm} notfabio Apr 13, 13:05

I just don't think the comparison to House Party (which was always meant as an HBO Max movie) is particularly fair. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Apr 13, 13:43

It's not great, but studios do seem to be going that theatre count for most African American lead films (besides Creed 3) these days. notfabio Apr 13, 13:50

That used to be the norm, remember, with so-called "urban comedies"...they just target them to bigger cities with large AA communities. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Apr 13, 14:57

Tar had awards buzz + major star & wide release & did <5m. Was short on this one ever since I saw Tar's BO. Tallwonder Apr 13, 13:41

Chevalier was MUCH more than just a composer... that said, KHARR told me he personally loved Tar. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Apr 13, 13:51
