Does Arthur the King have a shot at being a little box office surprise? Dog stories can do well, and the source mtl for this is strong.
If you've ever seen the story that was broadcast on ESPN several years back, about this dog's journey and an athlete's bonding with him, you know what I'm referring to. The story was striking. It was emotionally powerful; will people want a feel good movie like this these days?
It wasn't that long ago, The Art of Racing in the Rain did not do well. That movie failed to capture the tone of the book in several ways, and it not only failed to break out, it simply didn't do well. This story is not that sort of fantasy, it's a true story. The power of the connection between people and animals always has that potential to score if it's done "right".
Maybe this one just comes and goes....
