Set in 1980s Moscow at the height of the Cold War, BILLION DOLLAR SPY tells the extraordinary true story of Adolf Tolkachev, an ordinary Soviet engineer who became the CIA's most valuable asset inside the USSR. Despite repeated rejections from a cautious Agency operating under a White House-ordered stand-down, Tolkachev (Russell Crowe) forges a covert partnership with young CIA officer Tom Lenihan (Harry Lawtey). Russel Crowe and Harry Lawtey star along with an ensemble cast that includes Vera Farmiga, Willa Fitzgerald, Tony Goldwyn, Rufus Sewell, Justin Theroux and Claes Bang.
Based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David E. Hoffman, the film is adapted for the screen by Ben August (Remember, Class Rank) and Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana, Rules of Engagement).
