I always thought it was only when July 4/Dec 25 fell on a Wed/Thurs & the movie was releasing early in the week

Since July 4 falls on a weekend (as we define it for movies - including Friday) it didn't apply here. I could be wrong though.

As a side note it becomes farcical if the movie does Early Access/Fan Event/nowadays Amazon Prime member shows too/etc after announcing a Wed release, its then screening the entire week before its first weekend! Also allows all sorts of options to play with in terms of BO number fudg.. er reporting.
