idrom is right. spoliers...

Clooney sets the weapon to backfire, as he suspected she was hired to kill him.

You see him glance at the weapon for a brief moment in the suitcase, pick it up and then they cut away to the next scene. 

Right then, as he gave pause I said to my wife, "he knows".

Guess it doesn't matter so much, he dies anyway.....I did love the last scene though with the faint endangered moth/butterfly flutttering through the top of the trees.
