You got me, I don't read that book anymore...

Posted by: NLitend1 (a.k.a NLitend2) on Apr 14, 10:11 in response to Whoisjohngalt's post @nlitend1 Obviously you have never read the book, but...

However, I am actually a professor of literature and I hold an advanced degree in political science and economics (I teach those subjects every few semesters). I don't know much about you, except the obvious--you don't know sh**. Now I know it is popular among conservatives to criticize and demean professors because they use facts and figures and encourage critical thinking..so I'll just state the very obvious:

Ayn Rand is a selfish megalomaniac, and both her and the beliefs she expresses in her novels are hateful, heartless and depraved. As for figures, this movie has a free market value of about $3 a share. Just because you believe that the Rand is a saint and the movie should be worth $20 doesn't make it so. Good luck to you in your trading and please come back again in a few months.

I cant believe the underestimation of ATLAS. Once again, Hollywood (and apparently those whom follow it) miss the boat on morality films. {nm} Whoisjohngalt Apr 14, 08:38

so you think it is going to do well? {nm} lobogotti Apr 14, 08:41

I think there is a good chance of 10m+. It's being pushed insanely hard by conservative talk radio. {nm} Austinmh Apr 14, 08:49

OW? {nm} lobogotti Apr 14, 08:54

Not on 300 screens, naturally. But I fully expect 1.3+ for the weekend and healthy weekday numbers. Austinmh Apr 14, 10:04

Doesn't your nick say it all? It's the catchphrase from Atlas Shrugged: "Who is John Galt?". {nm} Facto Apr 14, 08:41

Do they answer the question in Part 1 or do I need to wait until Part 1? secretstalker Apr 14, 08:44

Couldn't care less either.. The book is widely read, but this movie-version contains no stars, and no major studio picked it up. Some rich Facto Apr 14, 08:52

They need to add an 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not manipulate Christian-tinged movie stocks. {nm} secretstalker Apr 14, 08:44

phhht. The guy expressed an opinion that you find questionable. Does not equal manipulation. {nm} edzep Apr 14, 08:48

Christian-tinged? Rand was a hard-core athiest. {nm} BionicMoron Apr 14, 08:52

Gotta love the irony. Her legacy is in bed with the conservative christian factions, via the Tea Party connection. Or something like that.. Facto Apr 14, 08:54

lol. couldn't agree more. And we should respec {nm} JMT-NL Apr 14, 09:08

t ..... the posts of A. Rand-followers. Love your enemies ;-) {nm} JMT-NL Apr 14, 09:09

*yawn* {nm} hawkfanatic2 Apr 14, 11:01

post of the year! {nm} daveart Apr 14, 09:38

Its got about 300 theaters so far, but their website has a 'demand this in your area' section with many thousands of followers NLitend1 Apr 14, 09:11

I expect a giant sucking sound, at the end of this weekend.. I could be wrong, though. {nm} Facto Apr 14, 09:14

I suspect that if teabaggers will vote for sarah palin, they would pay to see this POS...However, from the look of the trailer... NLitend1 Apr 14, 09:17

sarah palin has never ran for an elected position since the founding of the tea party. {nm} MAHONDAS Apr 14, 09:40

I'm just stating that this book has the second biggest following after the bible according to the Library of Congress. Whoisjohngalt Apr 14, 09:20

It is a horrible book, she is horrible person, and I'm just stating that too...but yes it is popular--so is jersey shore NLitend1 Apr 14, 09:22

what is it that is bothering you about the book? nlitend1 {nm} MAHONDAS Apr 14, 09:34

maybe she was maybe she wasn't.......... MAHONDAS Apr 14, 10:00

@lobogotti I've seen the movie in it's final form. It's better than I expected, and as a movie I rate it about a B+. I will admit... Whoisjohngalt Apr 14, 09:38

fair enough. {nm} lobogotti Apr 14, 10:33

@nlitend1 Obviously you have never read the book, but thanks for your enlightened commentary. Whoisjohngalt Apr 14, 09:31

have you seen the trailers and clips? {nm} lobogotti Apr 14, 09:33

I've seen the trailer, was there more than 1? It looks made for tv {nm} NLitend1 Apr 14, 09:41

Look. I was just stating a point. I come here about 2 or three times a year now, and expected ATLAS to be about 18-20 and was shocked. Whoisjohngalt Apr 14, 09:48

Is this guy for real? {nm} Facto Apr 14, 09:40

You got me, I don't read that book anymore... NLitend1 Apr 14, 10:11

Both englightened and erudite.. Allow me, please, to use the following quote about Ayn Rand for the second time today (first was on FB): Facto Apr 14, 10:18

Please give us some facts on rand and how they affect your opinion on her as a person and an author? {nm} MAHONDAS Apr 14, 10:28

I don't know what I could tell you that isn't fully covered in biographies...here are some of the highlights NLitend1 Apr 14, 10:56

As a professor of Literature I'm sure that you can appreciate the irony of your statement " that you encourage students... Whoisjohngalt Apr 14, 10:34

You sure taught him a lesson there.. ! Wait.... {nm} Facto Apr 14, 11:18

So far zero for 5 on Rotten Tomatoes, for a 0 % rating. Looks like it needs Rush Limbaugh or Armond White to write up a review lol. {nm} goodvibe61 Apr 14, 11:38
