Spanish actress Penelope Cruz made her American film debut in 1998's The Hi-Lo Country, but had already established herself across the Atlantic in European films. Among Cruz's earliest efforts were comedies such as Belle Epoque and A Corner of Paradise. In 1997, Cruz received critical acclaim for her role in Open Your Eyes, and in Pedro Almodovar's Oscar-winning All About My Mother. Since then, Cruz has starred opposite Matt Damon in All the Pretty Horses, opposite Johnny Depp in Blow, and opposite Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky.
