Well, I would RESPECTFULLY disagree. I only see one of those events as manufactured, the others are logical outcomes set up over time.

Posted by: Moviesnob on Aug 26, 16:29 in response to numbersix_99's post MY concern about this is as above...

Walt pretends to cry because we've seen it set up that Hank is a man's man. A grown man crying in his office makes him uncomfortable and is a way (based on character development) to get him out of his office.

Walt is constantly manipulating Jesse (and others). His plan to take down Gus was elaborate and you could argue that its too elaborate to work (but then theres no show, as one of the central tenants is Walt is WAY ahead of everybody. Hes just too smart) but we see all the pieces come together. He needs to get Jesse on his side. He knows Jess is sympathetic to and loves kids (set up trhough character development in season one with the meth couple), especially Brock. The only way Jesse will help kill another person is if that person hurt his child (which Brock essentially is)

Finally, Hank finding the book was set up before (and flashed back to at the end of last season with Hank reading Gale's notebook to Walt), but you're right this one is close to being manufactured. Walt has to be caught at some point, and I personally think its more interesting that its hubris that does him in, rather than someone turning him it. Walt may be a genius but he is still a human being who makes mistakes and thats far more interesting.

And its been building between Hank and Walt the whole series. You knew eventually Hank was going to be the one to find out. The fact that when Hank's boss was fired for not catching Gus, when he says "he was right under our nose" the camera isnt on him, its on Hank. Why else would Hank be a DEA agent (character development) if he wasnt going to catch him?

And this is all for entertainment! Nothing wrong with that!

OK, am I missing something with newest Breaking Bad? eyescovered Aug 25, 19:08

Vulture breaks it down pretty good here... eyescovered Aug 26, 16:51

its a recap. It doesn't critique last night's episode other than saying Moviesnob Aug 26, 17:39

Um, not just a recap. Pretty much an entire article on what we're talking about. {nm} eyescovered Aug 26, 18:46

sorry, didn't mean any offense. I don't see where your concerns were addressed {nm} Moviesnob Aug 26, 20:02

perfectly reasonable explanation. and trust me, I'm not a blind advocate for the show...(spoilers) lobogotti Aug 27, 11:27

As entertainment, it's damn good, though for me it used to be better because of these lack of contrivances... numbersix_99 Aug 27, 01:01

wow, that is some really deep thinking. I'm surprised Walt's ability to turn on the tears turns you off so much. lobogotti Aug 27, 11:24

I think.... numbersix_99 Aug 27, 14:00

ha! The debate that will go on for years to come, The Wire or Breaking Bad. At this point I feel BB has a slight lead, and the can retain lobogotti Aug 27, 17:39
