TWD has shown time and again that compassion gets you killed (or at least in trouble) ie. Morgan letting a Wolf go then that Wolf shoots at Rick, Glenn keeps trusting Nicholas only to get eaten/not eaten
But not showing compassion can be bad too. When Ricks group hears the horn and gunfire yet he says 'theyre just going to have to handle it'. Then seeing the baby food means that his home was invaded (i doubt they took judith) and that by not showing compassion his family was in trouble
so basically the show is asking: In a zombie apocalypse, should you show compassion or not?
the show is making it a tough one to answer
