Have any of those 30 "special elections" gained Democrats any seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, or U.S. Senate?

Posted by: TJNFL1 on Aug 24, 01:29 in response to Moviesnob's post there have been 30 special elections this year and...

Democrats still need to gain 24 seats to take back the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018.

Democrats have to defend 25 seats, including 10 seats in states that Trump won in 2016.

So the question is how can they do this?

Option #1 - Go after those rust belt states again.  Lot of economic "Reagan" democrats there who saw NAFTA, climate change policies, environmentalist policies, suto affirmative action policies, and politically democratic activists unions all marginalizing these conservative blue collar working families. Think Canton Ohio without Colin Kaepernick. Obamacare for them was neither what was promised, nor what was asked for, mainly better care for a lower cost.

Option #2 - Go after some sun belt states. Liberal democrats trying to make up political ground in some southern states is laughable. Maybe not tearing down so many of their ancestors memorials?  These are not LGBTQ, illegal immigration, higher taxes, sanctuary city, identity politics, globalism supporters. Think Kentucky Derby and NASCAR where political correctness is not held in high regard. Again, Obamacare was a forced option or an unwanted fine.

Option #3 - Do both.  As far as the RNC vs DNC finances go.  https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dnc-trails-rnc-in-july-fundraising-by-over-6m/  It's currently a joke.  Try spreading that money around to that many states and they would be at a financial disadvantage in every state. They need to pick and choose states they think they have a serious chance to win, like coastal states.

If you look at a map. Democrats only won 4 states between Nevada and Virginia. (Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, & New Mexico). The middle of the country, away from the liberal coastlines, are just disenfranchised with the liberal democratic agenda, ... that's not going to suddenly change overnight.

Here is what liberal Democrats have going for them.

They own the public educational system. They are continually teaching the next generation what to think, how to act, what to believe, what to accept, what to reject, where to push, and how to get where they want to be.

They own the mainstream media.  They control what is news, how it is portrayed, what the narrative is, how it fits or doesn't fit into their perspective of social justice, economic redistribution, and human globalism.

They own the lower courts. Specific judges in specific districts continue to dominate legal outcomes through the liberal interpretation and revision of our constitution and statutory laws. Laws that need to "evolve into" rather than "be" the foundation for justice.

Here is what they also had for the last 6-8 years, but was taken away from them in 2014-2016.

The U.S. Presidency, majority control of the U.S. Senate, majority control of the U.S. House of Representatives, and, to a lessor extent, (due to vacancies), a majority in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Like the "America first" populist movement, there is also a private / charter / home school movement going on to combat the cess pool which is the current urban public school system. So many tenured teachers that can not be removed regardless of teaching abilities, drugs, gangs, violence, bullying, all dominate these "learning environments". There are those that would never send their child to a public school regardless, but the idea that they will ever change, and somehow become safer and more attractive for some parents, is just not currently realistic.

There has always been conservative talk / news radio, but CSPAN aside, Fox news is the only serious major U.S. news network that opposes the left news agenda. The web is a virtual newborn babe when it comes to dispensing the news and has not been dominated by either political party as of yet. Recently it is getting a bad rap for "Fake News" articles as Internet news comes with its occasional blemishes. It is seen by younger users as the prefered media platform as social media is well established as a solid foundation in their lives. TBD.

The judicial branch of the U.S. government is also a transition in progress. Although the Supreme Court now leans conservative with the appointment of Judge Neil Gorsuch, he simply replaced another conservative, so no dramatic shifts in ideology have taken place as of yet. If another conservative were to be appointed, that would be more significant. The lower courts are slowly being augmented with additional conservatives, but career liberal judges who have the ability to continue their role as constitutional and statutory interpreters of law, and wish to continue to push liberal ideology further, will remain as long as possible.

Loved the article question ... "if you’re interested in where the country is politically — is Wisconsin now red because Trump carried it? Or is it still blue because Obama won it in 2012? — you’re best off with a political map that looks mostly like 2012’s".

The author is still in denial about Wisconsin and the 2016 Presidential election in general.  To say a state is blue because it was in 2012, and not red because it was in 2016, is just nonsense. May a suggestion be made that Wisconsin went red for Trump in 2016 because it had gone blue for Obama in 2012. If the author does not recognize that this improbable political victory, out of nowhere, was not as much for Trump as it was for the rejection of the last 8 years and what another 4 years under similiar leadership could do to the country, then they fail to see political reality. Trump did not beat out a dozen other career republican politicians and then go on to defeat possibly the greatest career politician of them all in Hillary Clinton due to his long standing political prowess. He was simply the exact opposite of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

It was not so much an acceptance of everything Trump is, as much as it was the rejection of everything Obama and Clinton are. That is the DNC party platform. The only thing anyone could remember about it was that boys got to go into the girls bathrooms. Thats a hard sell even in Wisconsin, or any other red state.

What you're continuing to see at the DNC is what happens when you have a party that has no inspiring leaders, isn't unified, and has no message.  Who knows what the future holds as politics in general is that of glory, fame, and fortune. To quote George Patton, "All glory is fleeting". Another quote is from Benjamin Franklin. "The only thing for certain is death and taxes".

On to 2018 ... (please no tv adds yet).
