Republicans and conservatives are free to engage in gay-bashing, in race-targeting voter suppression, in xenophobia, in misogyny, and the like, but they are not entitled to immunity from being called out for being bigoted, backward, science-disdaining, belligerently ignorant yahoos.
Fortunately, society has trended against social conservativism throughout my lifetime, and no sensible person expects us to return to prayer in schools, criminalized abortion, superstitious discrimination against gays, segregated schools, and the like. Progress will continue, despite the strong efforts and fervent wishes of right-wing retrogrades. America will improve. Conservatives will mutter bitterly from the sidelines, as is customary.
