Can someone explain how the short/ cover option works? When is the right time to use it.

Since the options are mentioned in the forum I am curious about this. Sorry I read the explanation in the old hsx wersion but didn't get it. A well define example like the one for blockbuster warrants surely will help.  Something in the lines if this happens you win this much , and if that happen you loose that much.  thanks
