The portfolio search is ... start in the portfolio view; click Edit/Find (on either IE or FF toolbar). Enter the ticker symbol (or partial symbol) and you go directly to the stock line, if said stock is held in the port. Result: One can see stock holding together with gain/loss information.
I used this method in the old HSX (which worked perfectly) and assumed most traders did the same. Obviously not.
It appears that the max search limit (500) set up in HSX somehow controls the fields that a browser will search. I say this because I searched 3 stocks this morning and 2 were found. Next I went to the advance trader and the 3rd stock was found. When the max search field was set at 100, I had several stocks that were not found. At that time, I used the quick trader to purchase said stock only to get the message, 'You can't buy any more shares of this security. You already own the maximum allowed: 50,000 shares.'
The advance trader search is not efficient, IMHO. First, I would have to have a separate window open just for searches because flipping back and forth in one screen is a nightmare in that the pages load so slowly. Faster pageload would improve this to some degree but the advance trader would still be inefficient compared to my method.
The exact ticker symbol would have to be typed in the search box in order to get the info on the queried stock. Have a trailing blank and nothing will come up (which happens often with copy/paste).
Example: tfrm2_ brings up 'There are no securities matching your search criteria!'. Delete the trailing 'blank' and wait for another page load. (Deep breath and let it out slowly). Once it appears you can discover (via the little suitcase) how the stock is held. Any other information (i.e gain/loss) would require a click-thru to the stock page and yes, another big breath to let out slowly.
In FF, if you did the same, there is no need for another pageload. Simply delete the 'blankspace' and to directly to the correct line.
The same as above if one spelled the ticker name wrong. i.e. trfm2 instead of tfrm2. Now, don't tell me this doesn't happen often .. :).
The good news is that the Hsx advance search can be done by movie title. Sometimes a title is used rather than the ticker symbol. Knowing the title helps.
I hope my message is clear.
