Description

The Brazilian drama Carandiru is based on the real life events surrounding Dr. Drauzio Varella's experiences at a Sao Paulo prison. His attempts to introduce prison reform were thwarted when in 1992, authorities killed 111 men during a jailhouse rebellion. Hector Babenco directs and co-writes with Fernando Bonassi.
