Based on the novel by Hubert Selby, Requiem for a Dream stars Jared Leto as a young man who is trying to make something of himself. Ellen Burstyn plays his mother, whose dream is simply to appear on a game show. Published in 1988, Selby's novel takes a dark look at addiction in its many forms, including heroin addiction.
The film is adapted and directed by Darren Aronofsky, who earned the Director's Award at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival for his ground-breaking film, Pi. Scheduled for a year 2000 release, Requiem for a Dream also stars Jennifer Connelly, Christopher McDonald and Marlon Wayans.
