The summer movie season looks to go out on a whimper with three new releases over Labor Day weekend. Lionsgate unleashes the PG-13 rated horror film The Possession [TPOSN], which gives the exorcism phenomenon a Jewish twist. The billing of producer Sam Raimi should also attract horror fans. Taking over 2816 theaters, The Possession could bank...

The last weekend of August is typically slow at the box office and this year won’t be an exception as Hollywood dumps three new wide releases. Although The Expendables 2 [XPND2] underperformed its predecessor, the action sequel doesn’t have much in the way of competition. The Expendables 2 should repeat at the top spot with about $13 million.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt [LGORD] toplines the actioner Premium Rush [PRUSH] as a bike messenger chased through the streets of Manhattan. Originally set...

A redband trailer for the Prohibition-era crime drama Lawless [LWLES] has debuted online.   The Weinstein Co. apparently doesn't believe the starpower led by Shia LaBeouf [SLABE] and Tom Hardy [THARD] are enough to sell a period film set during the 1920s, so they've flashed some nudity and spilled more blood to entice the male demographics. Lawless opens on August 29th.

Even though the sequel packed more starpower than the first film, The Expendables 2 [XPND2] banked an estimated $28.75 million, short of the original's $34.8 million opening two years ago.  The R-rated action film expectantly attracted an audience that was 63% male and 65% over the age of 25.

Last weekend's champ The Bourne Legacy [BORN4] captured $17.0 million, dropping 55% in its second weekend.

The animated ParaNorman [PNORM] debuted in third place with $14.0 million.  Focus Features...
