If you're shorting the fund, you think it will go down in price. To get your money back, you need to cover. Buy = short, sell = cover.

I guess you've realized that most funds are gainers, most of the time. Short a selected fund only in unusual situations.

People who run funds already have a track record of steady gains. Shorting a fund is not a good idea.

but sometimes their owners neglect them, like EURO, which hasn't made a trade since Aug 23

EURO fund would probably not be a good one to short. Last cycle, he went to $100 in about 5 months. That's pretty good.

Euro Fund has been active for 2.5 months this cycle and net change to date is -H$1.06. Not a good investment in either direction

The criteria is make $100mill and sign up.....how does that equal "track record of steady gains"?

In my case, the criteria were make H$3.5 billion and be invited to pitch in for the good of the community. Your mileage may vary. {nm}

Oops, didn't really answer your question. If you shorted any security, and want to get out of the position, you need to "cover".
