Obviously, playing the OW is riskier than playing the moviestock because you can't flip when you're wrong.
The main reason things switched to Saturday was to drive more trading on the weekend.
But I also think that the Saturday halt helps newbies get into the game and playing OWs earlier. Back in the day, smaller ports would either avoid playing the openers because of potential losses, or play the openers and lose big-time. It discouraged new traders from playing the most engaging part of the game, while now it's more accessible and a good, easy way to earn H$.
